How do the two platforms differ in approach?
HubSpot describes itself as “all of HubSpot's marketing, sales, and customer service software on one agentic platform”, built on Smart CRM (HubSpot). The design goal is one platform that business teams configure and run themselves.
Salesforce is built for depth of customisation. Its Agentforce Agent Builder, for example, lets teams build agents with Flows, Prompts, Apex and MuleSoft APIs (Salesforce). That flexibility suits organisations with complex, bespoke processes and the developers to maintain them.
Where is customer data hosted?
This is often the deciding question in Southeast Asia. HubSpot hosts data in the EU, Canada, Australia and the United States, and says it has no immediate plans for additional data centres (HubSpot). Salesforce offers Hyperforce in Singapore and has announced local data residency for Agentforce in Indonesia (Salesforce).
If in-country hosting is a hard requirement in those markets, that weighs towards Salesforce. Where the law allows documented cross-border transfers, as Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines do with safeguards (DLA Piper; DLA Piper; DLA Piper), the question becomes documentation rather than location.
How do the AI agents compare?
Both now centre on agents. HubSpot's Agent Hub is included for all Starter, Professional and Enterprise customers, with ready-made agents such as Customer Agent, Prospecting Agent and Data Agent, and custom agents built in Agent Builder using HubSpot Credits (HubSpot). Salesforce positions Agentforce as “the AI agent platform that delivers 24/7 autonomous support at enterprise scale”, with agents across service, sales, HR, IT and field service (Salesforce).
In both cases the agent is only as good as the customer data and business context behind it.
Who will run it day to day?
Ask who owns the platform after go-live. HubSpot is configured more than coded, so marketing, sales and service operations teams can usually run it. Deep Salesforce customisation tends to need specialist administrators and developers. Neither is wrong. It depends on the team you have, or want to build, in each market.
What about messaging channels?
In Southeast Asia, customers message as much as they email. HubSpot connects WhatsApp natively on Marketing Hub or Service Hub Professional or Enterprise (HubSpot Knowledge Base), and connects LINE and Viber through Marketplace apps or its custom channels API (HubSpot Knowledge Base). Whichever platform you choose, test each channel in each market before go-live.
How should a multi-country company decide?
- Data residency. Is in-country hosting required in any market you operate in?
- Customisation. Do your processes need code, or would standard objects and configuration fit?
- Ownership. Who runs the platform in each market, and what skills do they have?
- Scope. Do you want marketing, sales and service on one platform, or best-of-breed tools?
- Switching cost. If you already run Salesforce well, a move must earn its cost. HubSpot says most businesses complete a migration within three months (HubSpot).
